March was National Engineering Month, but we will continue the celebrations with our series of blog posts dedicated to detailing personal projects from CAD Micro’s very own engineers. Continue celebrating with us! In this blog post, our tech team member John Ninonuevo designs an armchair using SOLIDWORKS 2D and 3D capabilities.

During Engineering Month, we’re celebrating the brilliance and innovation that engineers bring to every aspect of life. At CAD Micro, Fabio Colella, a recent addition to our team, has taken on the challenge of enhancing the traditional guitar pick.

Traditional picks can be slippery, and while textured alternatives exist, there’s nothing quite like crafting your own custom pick. With the aid of 3DExperience SOLIDWORKS design software and a 3D printer, the possibilities are virtually limitless.

Employing SOLIDWORKS Configurations, Fabio developed a range of picks with varying thicknesses and designs. The next step was to bring these designs to life through printing.

Considering the project’s requirements, Fabio opted for a DLP printer (similar to SLS) and chose tough resin as the ideal material. Tough resin was selected for its enhanced flexibility, durability, and superior finish quality.

The outcome? A dependable guitar pick that has quickly become Fabio’s preferred choice since its creation.

As we continue our festivities, we are thrilled to present a design by John Ninonuevo, a valued member of our tech team. Not only does John help customers navigate any issues they might encounter with SOLIDWORKS,  but he also provides custom training as well as co-creates a lot of the technical blog posts.  John is the friendly helpful voice on the other end of the line!

In previous blog entries we have showcased our engineers’ personal projects in honor of National Engineering Month, today’s post is a little different. This particular project is not a personal project, but is a dynamic demonstration of SOLIDWORKS 2D to 3D feature to a prospective client.

The backstory:

A prospective partner approached CAD MicroSolutions seeking a solution to enhance project visualization and streamline workflow processes. The prospect has a number of 2D designs generated using AutoCAD, they wanted for an quick and efficient way to convert those 2D drawing s to a 3D CAD model.

John knew what the perfect solution would be. Enter SOLIDWORKS, a premier design software, equipped with its innovative 2D to 3D conversion feature. In a matter of clicks, the static blueprints were transformed into 3D renderings.  Facilitating enhanced visualization and comprehension for the prospective client.
