It is usually a difficult task to move designs and libraries from one design environment to another. Whether you have changed design tools or collaborate with other parties which utilize other design tools, at some stage you will need to import a schematic or PCB design into SOLIDWORKS PCB (SW PCB). SW PCB unifies the import process through a single import tool. A simple File >> Import would allow you to import schematics, PCB and their project libraries from various design tools. Relationships between objects within the different environment will also be maintained during the import process. The step-by-step procedure is as follows:
- Go to File >> New PCB Project.

- Create the PCB project, with the proper configurations like Project Name and Repository Folder. Click OK once completed.

- Go to File >> Import.

- Choose the file type you wish to import, and then browse to the file location. Click on Open once selected.

- You can also change import configurations of all the different vendor tools by going to File >> System Preferences.
